One of RainViewer’s useful tools is the ability to export and share radar animation. In other words, you can export the motion of precipitation (rain or snow) shown on the map as a .gif or .mp4 file. After the export, you can save the animation locally on the smartphone. You can also share it via messengers or on social media to notify friends and followers about the upcoming rain, snow, or any other storm. If you’re blogging and need to illustrate a storm, hail, or heavy rain in your blog post, radar animation would be the best option for this.
Though sharing animation is dead simple, below are some hints how to do it in RainViewer on iPhone and Android.
How to export and share radar animation on iPhone
- Press the ‘share’ button on the main screen.
- Adjust the area that you want to show: move or resize.
- Select the time frames for the animation.
- Choose the format to save: .gif or .mp4.
- Remove watermarks if you’re using Premium Features.

Sharing animation
After the animation is created, you can send it via messengers, email it, save it locally to Photos, and post it on social media: Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, WhatsApp, or any other platform.
Radar Animation Forecast
Unlike other radar apps, RainViewer creates radar animation for the next 60/90/120 mins depending on the version that you’re using. During the export, you can include future radar forecasts in your animation to show where the storm will be moving within the next 1-2 hours.
